VINYL WEEK at Golden Discs

VINYL WEEK at Golden Discs

So Vinyl week is almost among us and even though is pretty self-explanatory – it’s all about vinyl!! Vinyl has been increasing the last few years, and I think it’s cool that we’re dedicating a whole week to celebrate this! A great year, with the anniversaries of such monumental albums – Abbey Road, The Wall & The Stone Roses. All great albums, which most definitely shaped music as we know it, and total iconic vinyl albums!! What better way to kick vinyl week off then to do my top 4 albums that will be on offer for the week that’s in it.

Queen, Greatest Hits

An absolute fantastic mix of hits from start to finish. This was one of my first albums I got on vinyl as it reminds me of my childhood. The sound of Freddie blaring out of our old pioneer sound system every Sunday morning (no such thing as a lie in!), or every time we set foot in a car for a road trip, it wouldn’t be the same without the iconic ‘AYY-OHH’ from the famous Live Aid performance, as we all responded back as if we were in Wembley that night. Every time I listen to this album, the memories flood in. It’s a nostalgic album, not only for me but for a lot of others, and that’s why it’s such a gem of an album for any vinyl collection.  I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who could say a bad word about Queen and their music. Timeless songs that will ‘live forever’ and never get old. Complete with the Greatest Hits 2, you can’t really go wrong.

The Very Best of Stone Roses

I hadn’t really any interest in the Stone Roses until maybe a year or two ago. Of course, I knew them because of there ever so popular tune – ‘Fools Gold’ but never really gave them the limelight when it came to bands. I came across the song ‘Waterfalls’ when I was listening to a compilation in work and instantly fell in love with the song. I was quite surprised it was the roses and a bit annoyed at myself that I never gave them a chance sooner. I stuck in the Very Best of on CD and that was it, a done deal – loved them…still do. Couple months later, I bought it on vinyl, and it sounds amazing!! ‘Waterfalls’ is obviously my favourite track as it’s the reason I love them, followed closely by ‘I Wanna Be Adored.’ Their debut, self-titled album ‘The Stone Roses’ turned 30 years old this year, so no better way to celebrate then a perfect mash up of all their greatest tunes on one - total chill vibes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1, OST

Love, love, love this soundtrack! An unbelievable selection of some classic oldies such as Cherry Bomb, Hooked on a Feeling and Spirit in the Sky. You will literally find yourself saying ‘Omg, I love this song!’ for every single track!! Such a feel-good album, I almost feel like I’m the Star-Lord listening on my cassette player. If you’ve seen the movie, it’s fun remembering what scenes each song is from, but if you haven’t seen the movie, I’m almost certain after listening to this album, you will want to. ‘Come and Get Your Love’ is my favourite track on the album. Loved it before this movie and love it even more now.

Why not follow up with Vol. 2? 100% lives up to Vol. 1 and packed with loads more oldies.

Stranger Things, OST

If you watch Stranger Things, you’ll know how amazing this entire soundtrack is and how bizarre it is that such catchy, upbeat, sing-in-the-shower-kinda songs can be played alongside such dark scenes in the series – but it totally works! Packed full of tunes that you’d completely forget you loved; Bon Jovi – Runaway, The Clash – Should I Stay or Should I Go, and of course, Toto – Africa. The list is endless. If you are a fan of some good 80’s classics, this is definitely the album for you.

I guarantee you will love it, even if you have zero intention of watching the series. There are some voice clips thrown in between songs, to remind fans of what scenes the songs were from but if you can look past that, you won’t regret adding this little masterpiece to your collection. An album full of good, wholesome music on vinyl, which is what vinyl week is all about, right?? The artwork is also a nice touch; super cool! Totally recommend.
